FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

17-BIT TO RELEASE SKULLS OF THE SHOGUN WORLDWIDE ON JANUARY 30th, 2013

The highly anticipated action-packed turn-based strategy game will be released simultaneously on Xbox Live Arcade, Windows 8, Windows Surface, and Windows Phone

SEATTLE, WA (January 10, 2013) – Indie developer 17-BIT today announced that they will be releasing Skulls of the Shogun worldwide on January 30th, 2013 for Xbox 360, Windows 8 PC, Microsoft Surface, and Windows Phone. The Xbox 360 version will be available for 1200 Microsoft Points in the Xbox Live Marketplace, the Windows 8/Surface version for $14.99 in the Microsoft Store, and the Windows Phone version for $6.99 in the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Skulls of the Shogun is an invigorating cocktail of 1960’s-flavored sorcery and strategy. Washed up on the shores of the afterlife, players meet and join forces with vibrant ghost-samurai warriors, magical animal-monks, and mustachioed samurai generals on the way to capture the Skulls of the Shogun in a 15-hour single-player campaign. Skulls of the Shogun also features up to four-player local and online multiplayer battles.

Also, for the first time ever, players will be able to challenge their friends, fight their way through online multiplayer battles, and even take their single-player campaign on the road asynchronously — whether they’re playing on Xbox 360, Windows 8, Surface, or Windows Phone. Called Skulls Anywhere, this cross-platform gameplay has never been done before on Microsoft platforms and will be available at launch on all four launch platforms!

“After three and a half years, Skulls of the Shogun is finally ready to be released,” said 17-BIT Founder and CEO, Jake Kazdal. “We’re ecstatic we could bring Skulls to all four of Microsoft’s platforms, and bring them all together with cross-platform functionality. We appreciate the excitement and patience by all the Skulls of the Shogun fans, and we here at 17-BIT believe the wait will be well worth it.”

Skulls of the Shogun will be localized in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian.

    Steam release at some point?

I don’t know if it’s such a great idea limiting the game to certain windows versions, but I guess that’s Microsoft’s doing. Hope you guys will see some sales. I’d definitely be interested, too bad I’m a Win7 user and will stay one for the next two years at least.

Win 8 only, what planet are you guys on? You lost a shit ton of sales because of that I hope your proud.

Neither me nor any of my gaming mates will be buying this now.

Most retarded move ever Award goes to 17bit

      Dear impossible person,

while some might be hating – other aren’t. Others are merely complaining about not being able to play the game because it’s restricted to ONE VERSION of an OS. If this is becoming a trend, soon everyone will be forced to buy the newest OS to play new games. Linux and Mac users are already at a big disadvantage when it comes to games (and a lot of software). This is not something Microsoft is doing to support the developer, but to get their own software to sell – I feel very sorry for 17-BIT. And it’s disappointing that I’ll never be able to play the game, but oh well. Anyway, have fun with spending so much money for the same game, just to have it for all your fancy devices. Would be lovely if you could keep in mind that not everyone is as rich as you.

I recently learnt about this game on a podcast where one of the devs was interviewed and it sounded very interesting, so I was extremely disappointed to learn of the horribly limited distribution it is going to have.

Skulls of the Shogun is coming out in 4 different versions – Windows 8, Surface, Xbox 360 and Windows Phone. For a small developer that’s quite a massive undertaking! We’ve heard from you all that you’d like Skulls on many different platforms, however Microsoft is the publisher of Skulls of the Shogun.

Please keep comments clean. It’s okay to complain, but let’s keep the language civil on our website. Thanks!
